The Pain of Entrepreneurship

It has been a painful week.

The challenges of entrepreneurship come in all shapes and sizes; and they are pretty unique to the context of each individual.

Personally, it’s about trying your very best to be the best version of who you can be, and to do your best in something you endeavour in — but still, encountering ridiculous setbacks in the process. It seems strangely ludicrous at best. Still, reality is reality — and we got to cope with it.

The disappointment is painful, and leads you to start questioning your passions and perspectives. It may even lead you to start thinking about whether the amount of work you put in is worth it; and why you eventually end up in a position not of success but suffering. Going beyond the idea of entrepreneurship, it is what life is, I suppose. Life does work in strange ways as well. You never get the fair end of the stick. You got to work your way to it. Don’t expect anyone to sympathise with you. It’s a battle.

The only glimmer of light in the dark is the fact that there are people who care about you, and who understand how much you actually put in, to get to where you are today. They give you unwavering support despite the constant Nos, skeptics, rejections, and people who somehow, don’t want to see you succeed. They hold you up, and comfort you amidst the cruelty. That is something to bear in mind.

I can say for sure that we are working and learning; desperately absorbing and executing as much as we can along the way, trying our best, but still falling short in many ways. It seems we aren’t good enough, unlike the others. And we ask ourselves why. And while that is happening, it seems that more obstacles await; threatening to crush that fire and will at an instant. Are we inadequate? Are we always consigned to failure?

But this is only the beginning, I think. It’s never easy, and it’s never just a walk in the park. We meet these unique setbacks, and they are only but tests of our mindfulness and resilience. While it seems we keep falling short of where we want to ideally be at, I guess this is only part of the process. I can’t say for sure where I will end up, but I know I’m growing everyday as an individual. As I learnt, don’t regret your decisions — but grow from them, and appreciate how they have made you to become the person you are today. It’s all in the mind — just believe, and focus on what’s important.

Entrepreneurship is hard, for sure. It throws you curveballs all the time, and you need to learn how to negotiate them. From there, inspiration emerges; and uncovers a hidden problem to solve. That’s the raw beauty of it all. You got to keep pushing. And remembering that execution trumps ideation.

If you want to embark on this journey, be prepared for all the unexpected trials and tribulations. They will come. They will. And, as a matter of fact, you may not even see it coming. But know that somehow or rather, some things will try to bring you down. And you will be beaten down, but, only for a while. The onus is on you to rise again, stronger and wiser.

It’s your call. And it’s my call. What should we do, and where shall we go? If there’s one hypothesis I have, it is when the going gets tough, it’s painful but gratifying in how it allows you to grow and mature; bit by bit.

You decide. It’s gonna be fucking tough. And, I can tell you for sure that it’s painful. But you have a choice. Give up now, and wonder how far you can go. Or embrace the pain of entrepreneurship, stick with the grind, and see where the path takes you.

What should we do, and where shall we go?
