5 Lessons from my Design Job Hunt

It has been an interesting journey.

I left my full-time design job at the end of July this year.

Before I left, I was already actively looking out for a new job in the design industry. Over 2 months, I applied to more than 20 companies, went for more than 10 interviews, and worked on about 5 design assignments. I know of friends who managed to conclude their job hunt in 2 weeks and happily signed the employment contracts there and then — but that was not the case for me.

Personally, it was quite a bumpy journey. However, I think it was a blessing in disguise as the several events that transpired led me to pick up various learning points in the process. Towards the end of August, I finally landed a new job that I am pretty excited with :)

As I reflect upon this journey, I will like to distill these learning points into 5 key lessons. Hopefully, this will help you the jobseeker (be it designer or not) in your hunt. Remember, you are not alone!

1. Be prepared for uncertainty.
